Committed to working within the theories and practices of Functional Medicine, Andrea digs for the root cause of your health challenges, instead of adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.

Behind all of her work lie three key principles:

  • each person has the unique capability to heal and thrive,
  • you cannot heal without looking at why (in functional medicine we call this “swimming upstream”)
  • and you can never forget to ask “What’s going on in there?”

Andrea’s road to nutrition began with a family health crisis. In April of 2000 her husband was diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. Andrea was seven weeks pregnant with their son Gilbert at the time. It was during that period that Andrea discovered that food was not only something that she loved to explore at the farmer's market, prepare in her kitchen and savor on her plate, but also a substance that could have powerful healing benefits. Food empowered her to make a difference. Initially it gave her something she could do every day, several times a day, to nurture her growing family.

Food became medicine for both herself and her family.

Several years later Andrea took her interest in food back to the classroom. There she began to piece together the science behind nutrition and, more importantly, physiology.

It is this unique background and passion about what Andrea calls “the key and lock approach” that enables Andrea to help propose the root cause of illnesses and address the appropriate diet to suit the needs of the underlying condition. The key is the diet, but the lock is your unique physiology — at the level of your genes, your cells and your organ function.

Watch Andrea’s TED-X talk from The School of the Well Spoken Woman Live in San Francisco, where she discusses “the key and lock approach” and her main mission and method for changing the face of health care.

Today, the approach, experience and training that make up Andrea’s mission is passionately communicated through the online global nutrition enterprise, Replenish PDX.

Andrea has served thousands of clients internationally and continues to grow a team of professionals who support her mission and offer a unique combination of skill sets ranging from online program delivery, to a team of resident practitioners that have chosen specializations in order to serve varying needs of Replenish clientele.

Andrea is a prolific writer whose work is in high demand. She is the co-author of "Living Candida-Free", with chef and blogger Ricki Heller, has been featured in Martha Stewart’s Whole Living magazine, the June 2014 edition of Oprah’s O Magazine and is a frequent contributor to The Epoch Times, an independent voice in print and on the web. She is also the in-house Nutritional Expert for Barre3’s 28 to Great, with a recent feature on QVC, Mundo Pato (an educational online autism community), HealthyNannies4HealthyKids, and The Shift Network.

2014 was a big year in formally reaching out to educate the public. As co-founder of The Hashimoto’s Institute, Andrea joined forces with some of the top experts in the Hashimoto’s world, and was instrumental in creating an online event, dedicated to spreading awareness about Hashimoto’s and educating and empowering Hashimoto’s patients. She also presented to health professional audiences at the 2014 National Association of Nutrition Professionals annual conference and the 2014 Nutrition Therapy Association’s annual conference. Additionally, Andrea is a dedicated health leader on the Board of Directors for the acclaimed Center for Integral Wisdom, an activist think-tank dedicated to partnering with leading thinkers and change agents to formulate and articulate a global ethics for a global civilization.

Her work is regularly featured in a variety of health, nutrition and wellness blogs, online summits, radio shows and publications nationwide, particularly on the topics of thyroid, autoimmune, and digestive health issues. Andrea’s exposure and recognition in the field continues to grow, having been voted a “crowd favorite” and highlighted as a featured speaker in Sean Croxton's 2014 Second Opinion Series - in both the Digestion and Thyroid Sessions, as well as appearing as a speaker in Marc David’s 2nd Annual Eating Psychology Online Conference.

In 2015, Replenish PDX launches the fourth edition of Holistic Nutrition Lab, the comprehensive online curriculum for health practitioners including digestive, immune, urinary, endocrine, nervous, reproductive and cardiology intensives. In this program, hundreds of holistic health practitioners join together virtually to gain a deeper understanding of the physiology behind their work and tools in which to deliver them to their clients.

In 2006, while still working another job, Andrea began the slow and steady process of completing all the necessary science courses to apply to graduate school in nutrition.

The trek took four years and encompassed an immersion in Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, Psychology and Nutrition. In the interest of her son’s stability, Andrea decided to stay in their home in Portland and pursue routes other than her dream graduate program to fulfill her mission.

It was during this time that Andrea attended Bauman College to receive Certification as a Nutrition Educator (CNE), the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) to receive Certification as a Holistic Health Coach (CHHC) and went back to Bauman College to become Certified as a Nutrition Counselor (CNC).

Meanwhile she opened the doors of Replenish PDX and began seeing clients in her dining room and teaching classes in her living room. The appeal of Andrea’s knowledge and teaching style caught on fast, and Andrea’s practice and business grew rapidly, stretching far beyond the boundaries of her city.

Andrea is a persistent student with continual education from the Integrative Health Symposium, the Institute for Functional Medicine, the Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice Seminar and a focus on key subjects, such as Mastering Functional Blood Chemistry, Mastering the Thyroid, and The Gluten, Leaky Gut, Autoimmune Connection with the renowned Dr. Datis Kharrazian.

Currently, Andrea is completing her Masters of Science in Nutrition and Functional Medicine (MSNFM) through the University of Western States.
